bwm retail has already handled the design-build for several hotels belonging to the young lifestyle brand of the international Marriott hotel chain (Vienna, Munich Aschheim, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Copenhagen Sydhavnen, Birmingham NEC). The popular Moxy Hotels were built using a modular wood construction system and feature a façade that appears to wrap itself around the structure like wickerwork and boasts bright accents in the CI colour. In the case of the new hotel in Dresden Neustadt, the façade had to be tailored to the City of Dresden’s requirements. bwm retail adapted to these conditions by creating a “scaly” façade made from Eternit wall shingles – a durable, weatherproof material that gives the hotel a unique appearance. The hotel’s design blends in with its surroundings, in terms of both the architectural context of the city and scale.

About the Moxy construction: Moxy Hotels are built using a modular construction system. The upper storeys are constructed from prefabricated wood elements made of cross-laminated timber that is clad with gypsum plasterboard. The insulated prefabricated wood panels, which are used for the façades of the upper storeys, are faced with a (mostly) ventilated façade on site. Because Marriott International sets great store by sustainability, all MOXY Hotels have a gold rating from the US Green Building Council’s LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification system.
