An existing vineyard cottage situated within the Viennese vineyards was fully refurbished and restored. The structure and cubature were basically maintained. Exterior changes mainly included the window structure and the surface. The wooden framework construction as well as the entire roof and the shutters were covered – on the inside and the outside - by a timber shell forming a continuous wooden surface. For the intermediate thermal insulation ecologically sustainable industrial hemp was used. The wood used was larch as it is weather resistant and gradually obtains an elegant silvery surface. A consistent and committed design process of all participants involved resulted in a unique building archetypically forming an integral part of landscape.
