Audiovisual installation as part of sommer.frische.kunst

The historic hotel ensemble at Straubingerplatz in Bad Gastein and the dramatic nearby waterfall are the inspiration behind Stefanie Sixt’s new video installation, which will be presented at this year’s sommer.frische.kunst art event. Artist Stefanie Sixt uses her camera as a tool to probe the buildings’ walls, floors, doors and structural elements and to peel away the layers of age. Her macroscopic journey into the past elevates the strata of time and turns them into an aesthetic element. Sound artist Markus Mehr created a composition for the installation, made from field recordings sourced from the waterfall, Bad Gastein’s white-noise backdrop. He edited these field recordings, dissected them and distorted them to form an associative sound narrative.

In our hotel project at Straubingerplatz in Bad Gastein we work with – and not against – the vestiges of the past. They are what gives old buildings their charm and special appeal and what makes them so alluring and so unique.
